Parowan Congregation first officially assembled for Worship, Sunday, July 2, 2000.
It resulted from the working of the Holy Spirit, combined enthusiastic Vision and
Guidance of then District Superintendent, Reverend Eddie Kelemeni, Dr. Douglas A.
& Reverend Jeri Lee Harrell and Lay Persons desiring a Church Home in Iron County,
Utah to meet Spiritual and Social Desires and Needs. The Harrells were assigned as
Co-
The Congregation was graciously welcomed by Leaders and Members of The Assembly of Jesus Christ, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Red Hills Southern Baptist Church and other Iron County Congregations. Gifts of furnishings and supplies have been received with appreciation.
The Historical Committee, Planning and Zoning and Parowan City Council unanimously welcomed the Congregation. It is Incorporated. Worship is in The United Methodist Meeting House, 190 North Main Street, Parowan, Utah, across from Parowan High School. Visitors are welcomed at 10 a.m. Sunday Worship. Holy Communion, Eucharist, or Lord's Supper, is Celebrated each Sunday and Thursday Evening.
Thursday Evening Praise and Prayer Service is held at 6:30 PM. Bible Study follows the short Service.
The Reverend Jeri Lee Harrell received her education at Southern Nevada Community College, The Course of Study for Pastors, Claremont Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary at American University, Washington, D.C. She served 12 years as Pastor of Advent United Methodist Church, Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to Las Vegas ministry she was a Pastor of Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church, Pahrump, Nevada.
Dr. Douglas A. Harrell was educated at Orlando FL, Junior College, and Florida Southern College, Lakeland, FL. He earned a Master of Arts Degree from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon. His Doctorate of Ministry was earned at Claremont School of Theology, formerly The Graduate School of Religion, University of Southern CA, Southern California School of Theology and later The School of Theology at Claremont, CA. Dr. Harrell Pastored in Florida, Alaska, Oregon, Southern California, Nevada and Utah. He was Founding Pastor of several Congregations.
HISTORY
Harrell, is a Colonel, Chaplain United States Air Force, Retired. During his Air Force career he served duty in California, Nevada and France.
From the beginning, the Congregation has been described by visitors and newcomers as "Very Spiritual", "Friendly", "Warm Hearted", and "Resolutely Missional". 7 Lay Speakers represent a wide range of Denominational, Economical and Social backgrounds. They assist in Worship and other Parish Ministries. The Congregation is ecumenical and inclusive and from several denominations.
